Another Update
Have you ever been at an airport and watched people at the gate waiting for their loved ones to come through? Here in Russia this is a big deal. There were people with balloons, flowers, etc waiting. I know this because I was there last Sunday morning at three a.m. waiting for students to come for our 6 month course. It seemed strange that there were no arrival boards lit. But this is Russia and sometimes things just don’t get turned on. We didn’t know the news we were about to find out about.
Our students were delayed by 2 hours so we went and sat in the van waiting when a heap of police came and closed the airport. We were able to get back into the airport as our students flight arrived and we picked up three students. We were back in the van on our way home we heard that a Aeroflot plane had nosed dived into the ground just on the boundary of Perm and 88 people were dead. After this our director phoned me to see if our students had arrived. It is amazing that these guys were not on this flight. We fly Aeroflot a lot in Russia and if I was coming home this day I would probably have been on this flight. I think the thing I can’t get out of my head is the people’s faces unknowingly waiting. I was not at the airport when the news was released but all I can do is imagine the grief people would be feeling. Monday was a official day of mourning here in Perm. Please pray for the families that have been affected by this terrible accident.
D.T.S (Discipleship Training School)
We are involved in staff training at the moment. I have a great team of 5 getting ready for our six month course which starts in 2 weeks. We have 7 wonderful students coming from all around the world and hopefully will receive more Russian students. Please pray for this as we really want to see this happen. We went (not I but team) to another city about 10 hours away to minister in a camp and spend time encouraging people to follow God and had a great time and seen God move. I love hearing when team’s go to do ministry and minister but have fun times as well. So here is the team.
Y.W.A.M. BASE LIFE.....
I am so blessed God has called us to work with the base here in Perm. I am amazed how blessed we are to have the wealth of spiritual input that we have in the west. I am very blessed to go to a great church in Australia and have been very blessed to sit under great teaching. I think in Australia I took this for granted but now I miss it. I see God really using me here as pastoral care but if anyone wants to come to minister there is opportunity here.
VILLAGE MINISTRY
Village ministry has been quiet at the moment except a trip to Nerab at the moment. We have a problem that the jeep has broken down (or in half) and we need to purchase a new wazik so this stops us from going north to far as a normal vehicle won’t survive the road. We also have to find a new pastor for our church in Nerb as the pastor has resigned and gone home. Please pray for this situation as we need the right person for this church
Work in the Orphanages
I (Christy) have still been going into 2 different orphanages each week and really feel like it is a privilege to work with these precious kids. To be honest I often feel absolutely exhausted by the end of the week and usually drag myself along saying God you have to do something you have to meet me. And every week as soon as we sit down to pray before we go, He fills me with his love and I often walk home totally refreshed after being with the kids. I love how God works. There is a battle and as we yield to Him and what He is wanting to do, He meets us and gives us all we need to minister and reach out to others. It is so totally all God and I give him the Glory.
In both orphanages I have had a lot of kids from my groups leave and change to another orphanage (which they do at the age of 4). It has been sad to say goodbye. But we have also seen about 5 adopted to families in Europe, America etc and one little boy was taken back into his extended family. We are so excited for them that they are now in a family and a home. With the changes we now have a lot of new little ones to love. You may remember the little girl I told you about a while ago that God really touched. She has now been fostered by one of the workers. We are so excited for her as hardly any kids with disabilities are adopted.
Many in my group in the Baby Hospital are so sick. Over half cannot sit up and don’t have much movement. I would love to ask you to pray for one little girl in our group. Her name is Irina. She must be 2 or 3 and has legs and arms like sticks. Just bone with skin. A while ago she was just so sick and whenever the staff looked at her they would just shake their head. We have been really praying for her and she has improved so much. I was just noticing on Friday how much stronger she looks. She cannot walk or sit but can stand on her head and often looks like an acrobat with her legs up in the air. I would love you to join and pray for her that she would continue to thrive and grow and the food would nourish her body.
Our team have seen God move and answer so many prayers over these little lives. He is so close to them and watching over them. Thank you all of you that have prayed – God is answering your prayers. We have also been so blessed by many of you with gifts for the kids, money for nappies, teddies, and craft supplies. Thank you all so much for your support for this ministry and these little kids. You have been such a blessing to these little lives.
Home school
Over summer we had a lovely break with Nana and Papa here. The kids were spoiled and had a lot of fun playing games, going for walks and to the play ground, and going to the river. We have now started back into school again. Zac has now just started school (can you believe it?) so we have had a bit of adjusting to do with 3 now in the class. Each week it gets better and is becoming a bit more normal. It does get chaotic at times though with all three of them needing me now in 3 different lessons. It is a juggling act but we are getting there and having fun on the way. I have borrowed some books from a friend and now do science and history with Ella and Zac together which is great. Ella loves group work and is so interested in it all. Zac still bounces around a bit but is picking things up along the way. We have been doing a few experiments to which have been a lot of fun. I am so impressed with how each one of them is growing and doing so well with their work. Jessie is continuing to do so well and is growing into a beautiful young lady. I can’t believe that she will be 10 in a few months. How time flies. She is a little book worm at the moment and loves to devour any book you give her.
Us
We are doing well. Life has been very full on and often doesn’t seem to stop. We are still doing language lessons and speaking more and more. Well Garry a lot more than me. We would love to ask you to continue to pray for us. It is a battle living here on a daily basis with the little things often taking so much time and causing frustration. It is also quite dry spiritually here. Would really love you to join with us and pray for refreshing.
Thanx to all for your continued support and prayers for us we really appreciate it
